  • To provide an understanding of the different team stages according to Wheelan.
  • To highlight some of the key leadership behaviors that can be applied at the different stages.
  • To equip managers with an understanding of what they can expect in terms of team harmony, effectiveness, etc., when teams are in the different stages.

 

An understanding of the team development stages can be an effective way for a manager to understand what leadership tools to apply and how they should focus their leadership. The work of Susan Wheelan and Bruce Tuckman has contributed to what we know about team development and has created this framework.
