When setting goals, it’s key to understand that in the majority of cases they do not sit in isolation, either from other goals from within the team or external influences. As such, our team’s objectives may be dependent on another part of the organization, just as our input may be an important factor further down the value chain. These dependencies are important to understand, because not only can they impact whether or not we will actually be able to achieve our goals, but also whether others in the organization can achieve theirs.
